I remember my mum describing Zanzibar as an island of wonders, her father was a sailor, she grew up with stories of an island with white beaches, native tribes, unlimited fruit, and kind people. The relics brought back from the expedition still hang in our living room back in Russia.
I don’t think much has changed, the island is a bundle of wonder and hard to put into just one category.
Maybe, leaving it alone is the best thing to do. A thing of wonder looses its wonder when fully understood. I’m happy for it to be its own wonderful thing.
